A native of New Hampshire, George E. Warner enlisted as a private in the Independent Battery, Massachusetts Light Artillery (6th) in 1862, and later joined the 10th U. S. Colored Artillery as first lieutenant. He rose to the rank of major and left the service in 1867. He moved to Onawa, Ia., where he married Mollie E. Morrison and worked as a merchant. The 10th U. S.
